Watching Mufasa encourage Simba in The Lion King, watching Pascal comfort Rapunzel in Tangled, or watching Anna risk her life to save her sister all have positive impacts on an individual’s behavior. Disney World has long been known as “The Happiest Place on Earth”, which is a destination full of positive experiences that reflect the morals of Disney as a whole. The Disney movies contain these same morals which is why many parents encourage their children to watch Disney movies starting at a young age.

Watching these movies with positive morals can help kids contain more positive attributes because when kids witness their favorite characters containing many positive qualities, it makes the child want to be just like their favorite character. Watching Disney movies can also improve a child’s social behavior towards others. Becoming pro-social can have life-long advantages in everything this child may do when they grow up and can lead to voluntarily helping out a classmate or friend.

Researchers at the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University have conducted a study to prove this theory. Researchers played 61 Disney films, including most of Disney’s well known animated films that were produced before 2011.The researchers reviewed over 5,000 minutes of film and 5,530 pro-social acts were shown during the film. They discovered that there was one positive social interaction shown for every minute of Disney film watched. This lead the team to conclude that watching Disney films promotes positive behavior in children.

Overall, showing Disney films to children at a young age will promote positive actions and qualities. Many parents want these qualities in their children which is why they encourage their children to watch these movies. Having positive effects that can last a lifetime just from watching a movie is worth watching.
