FKOF Review: Foamplate — PLANTPOWER001

Visions of the futures past

In recent years, Foamplate has been receiving massive amounts of attention for his music — so it’s easy to see why he made the decision to own and operate his own label. And, as you’d expect, PLANTPOWER’s debut release features the sounds of the one and only Foamplate himself (rightfully so, if you ask us)!

PLANTPOWER001 drops on both digital and vinyl this October — don’t sleep on this one...

A-side Tabula is full on bassweight — a track that grabs my attention every 32 bars and resolutely holds it until the very end. Inside, there are sounds and elements that may inspire memories of the “good ol days” inna dance. With one fell swoop, this tune shatters any (ill-advised) notion that dubstep is dead. There is nothing lacking in Tabula — but, as always, to experience the full power of the tune you’ll need to add a proper sound system and the dubstep faithful (with eyes lowered while viciously skanking to the madness Foamplate has built) to the recipe.

Deadly Habit is on the flip. While listening to this tune, I can instantly agree with the track’s sentiment — a love for pure and proper bass music is definitely a “deadly habit”. Deadly Habit doesn’t mess around with its short intro that propels you straight into another dimension (perhaps one where King Tubby and bass music had a love child named “deadly habit”). This tune is nothing short of greatness; providing the required dosage of heat to your collection of sound system music.

If the tunes aren’t sufficiently awesome enough for you, the debut PLANTPOWER EP was mastered by the infamous Ten Eight Seven. I can’t wait to add these fire tunes to my vinyl collection when it drops next month.
