We are a group of academic researchers who are passionate about how our everyday lives are affected by computer security and privacy issues.

These security and privacy issues are everywhere, as many things are Internet-connected: from our phones, computers, and tablets, to our TVs, lights, and speakers; not only in our pockets and in our homes, but also in public spaces, in schools, in hospitals, in airports.

These things could be siliently gathering sensitive information about us: our identities, our location, our movement, our likes and dislikes — intentially (e.g., for advertising) or unintentionally (e.g., because the things are hacked).

The problem is: Many of us don’t know what these things are doing behind the scenes because they are just black boxes. Worse still, many of us don’t know what things are around us that are watching us and could compromise our security and privacy.

This blog is our attempt to tell the world: There are a lot more hidden security and privacy risks than you think, and we’re here to show you. Through our research, we inspect these things, conduct experiments, run analyses, and highlight issues that could affect everyone: consumers, pedestrians, children, patients.

As such, we name our blog “All Things Inspected” (a play on the phrase “all things considered”).

Our goal is to provide transparency on everyday security and privacy issues, raise awareness, and offer suggestions for mitigation. In this blog, we publish our latest research findings and comment on the latest security and privacy issues — in a way that is understandable (hopefully) to a general audience and make an impact beyond just the ivory towers.
