1. Sleeping’s hard because you’re too busy thinking about your repertoire, setting up practice time, finding time to study for aural skills and theory and history — oh my!

2. You’re in college for 5 and a half years because it’s the only way you can achieve all your credit hours

3. You notice how pop songs all sound alike and feel proud you remembered forms from music theory

4. Your phone is on repeat of all the pieces you need to learn for music history

5. And while you’re studying for music history, your neighbors give you a judgmental look when you pass them in the hall.

must be the Gregorian chants that freak them out

6. You always have trouble spelling “rhythm” right the first time, no matter how often you write it

7. Free time consists of practicing your respective instrument(s), and hating composers every now and then.

8. When people ask what your favorite song is, and there just isn’t a simple answer

9. You no longer enjoy club music — it actually disgusts you that it’s even considered *gulp* music

can we not?

10. If you’re in band, you’re praying you get to do a John Williams-themed performance before you graduate

11. Your instrument(s) is a part of you, it’s your child, it’s your lifeline

12. If you’re a singer, you worship these

13. If you’re a woodwind player, you worship this

14. You are very possessive of your favorite practice room, if someone takes it, you vow revenge

15. Your non-music major friends are sick of you talking about music in general

16. No one wants you to go to karaoke (you’re either too good or point out those who are bad)

17. You constantly hum the piece you’re studying and your non-music major friends are sick of it

18. You constantly use music humor to show your superiority over non-music majors

19. No one understands you the way other music majors do

20. You have a group of music majors that you couldn’t live without

you battled all your music classes together! NO MUSIC MAJOR LEFT BEHIND!

21. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. But you’re thankful for music

22. Music is life
