I’m unhappy and feel like a failure.

This is what my friend told me a few months ago. I had invited my friend Jack (not his real name) for dinner. As we were saying goodbye in the parking lot, he confided in me, saying, “I’m unhappy and feel like a failure.”

To put everything in perspective, Jack is a successful businessman who owns a plumbing business with about 15 employees. He is married and has two kids, and from what I see, he has a happy marriage and a good relationship with his family. So, from the outside, everything seems great: a happy marriage, a healthy family, and financial success.

However, this is not how he feels about his life. The reason is that Jack thinks he should have achieved more. I challenged him to tell me three things he wishes he could have done better to feel better about his life.

He immediately told me that he is currently working with a mentor to maintain focus, efficiency, and effectiveness. His mentor introduced him to three habits that changed his life.

Let me share these three things with you.
