I have been working from home for one of Forbes's Best Startup Employers for more than three years now. Here are my top tips for staying productive and sane. And the latter is the most important one. 🙃

Before we begin, I want to share that work from home should be read as WORK from home, and not work from HOME. 🤩 Now let’s begin!

Have a Dedicated Space/Workstation

I can not emphasize enough how important it is to have a dedicated space where you do all your work. Just like we would normally have a dedicated study table/corner for studying, we need a similar dedicated space for uninterrupted deep work sessions. A dedicated space gets you into the mindset of working, and no time is wasted in priming your brain daily. Once this becomes a habit, you won’t even think before getting on with the day’s tasks as soon as you enter your dedicated workspace.

Be Super Clear on When You Begin and End Your Tasks

Working from home makes you vulnerable to blurring boundaries between work, rest, and other life activities. Even if you really like what you do, having a clear understanding of when you do work and when it’s time for other life priorities, is super crucial for your overall well-being and fulfilment. You should know well in advance about the time you check in and out of your dedicated workspace. This helps to give your day a bit of structure and really does wonders for your sanity.

Don’t Forget To Stay Active and Get Out of Your Bubble

Working from home means no commuting, no walking to the conference room, and no fun conversations with your teammates. Having minimum physical activity and staying in the same space aka your home all the time can seem like a repetitive cycle. It can reduce your productivity, hurt creativity, and leave you feeling empty and drained. Make sure to make time for some physical activity. If you are a fan of the outdoors like myself, taking a walk, visiting the park, or hiking are great options.
Prioritize social activities like meeting friends and catching up with family, joining local clubs that interest you, or visiting painting or pottery studios nearby.

Happy working! 🤗
