Your Kids Should Stop Doing Homework, and Schools Should Listen to Them

No kid likes homework, and most kids see homework as a waste of time because it consists of meaningless, busy work.

I have two kids, 10 and 12 years old, and both think that homework is nothing but stress-inducing activities that don’t enhance their understanding of schoolwork or prepare them for real-world challenges.

My kids are not the only ones affected. According to a study by the Better Sleep Council, 74% of students find homework a significant source of stress. They reported experiencing headaches, exhaustion, weight loss, sleep deprivation, and stomach problems due to homework.

If you think these kids are exaggerating their homework headaches, consider that most teens spend over 2 hours per school night on homework, which adds up to over 15 hours per week.

The 10-Minute Rule

The National Education Association in the United States suggests that children should do no more than 10 minutes of homework per night per grade.

For example, if you have a student in 4th grade, your kids should do no more than 40 minutes of homework per night, and if you are in 5th grade, you should do 50 minutes of homework per…
