WUNDERKAMMER! #37
Hey now.
January is almost through, and I hope you’re settling into this new year — writing the date correctly; referring to things that happened five weeks ago as ‘last year’; etc.
As always, here’s FIVE interesting things that I came across in the last week:
- Erik Satie. I’ve had a relationship to Satie’s music for a while now — but it was only in the last couple of months that I started diving into his life & work.
If you’re in need of a moment of calm, I highly recommend opening up THIS in one tab, and listening to some of Satie’s best piano works at the same time.
2. Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. If you’ve seen me play live, you’ll know I sometimes do a little tribute to Tchaikovsky and a few other composers. I can never fully explain how important such music is to me, but if you listen to what I listen to, maybe something will make itself clear.
3. DVS. This is one of those moments where clicking on a random link on twitter has a beautiful payoff. Rapper DVS — for reasons unknown to me — decided to do his own cut of the classic film, The Godfather.
It’s a minute long, and I’m very glad it exists.
4. DJ Veaux. AKA Colin Warn very kindly took the time to do a dance-remix of one of my sad af songs. Now you can do your weeping and dancing at the simultaneously, thereby saving time, becoming more productive, and unleashing your inner whatever!
5. Samuel Beckett. Continuing my study of Beckett, I tend to come across little interesting artefacts, like this — wherein Beckett is reading from his novel Watt. His voice — and in particular that mid-century Irish accent — are pretty wonderful.
Until next time… ❤

‘WUNDERKAMMER!’ is the German word for that great 16th / 17th century European idea of the ‘Cabinet of Curiousities’: a collection of interesting / rare things that the rich would display to their guests as a sort of conversation piece.
That’s what I want this to be, too: A conversation piece. I’ll happily show you mine, but I’d also love to see what interests / provokes your imagination & intellect. If you’d like to share something interesting / unusual with me, you can write a response directly, below — or, hmu on one of the other places I hang out (also below).
