WUNDERKAMMER! #5

Hey friend ☺

Here’s the FIVE things I wanted you to hear about this week:

  1. First up, is an article from right here on Medium. Monica Westin wrote a really interesting piece about the idea of a ‘gift economy’ as it relates to both Art and Tech.

Many interesting ideas covered here.

2. For my fellow film-lovers, a friend has tipped me to the fact that Turner Classic Movies is presenting a free online course in Film Noir. I’m forecasting a 76% chance of Humphrey Bogart.

It starts on June 1st and you can register HERE, or by clicking on the image below.

3. Not new this week.

In fact, it hasn’t been new for a while.

But for the umpteenth time, I re-discovered this live performance from Paolo Nutini, and I feel like you might enjoy it too ☺

4. A great opinion-piece in the NYT by Will Lippincott about mental health / suicide, mentioning the very important theraputic approach known as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

DBT is a variant of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and is just one of many interesting strategies that are less commonly known / present than pharmacological solutions.

5. And finally, ICYMI, I wrote a short post about something that happened me recently at 4am, here in Berlin. A few people shared it around and generally found it interesting — maybe you will, as well.

WUNDERKAMMER!’ is the German word for that great 16th / 17th century European idea of the ‘Cabinet of Curiousities’: a collection of interesting / rare things that the rich would display to their guests as a sort of conversation piece.

That’s what I want this to be, too: A conversation piece. I’ll happily show you mine, but I’d also love to see what interests / provokes your imagination & intellect. If you’d like to share something interesting / unusual with me, you can write a response directly, below — or, hit me up on one of the online places I hang out on (also below).
