Canyoneering magazine
A magazine cover built to help keep you alive.
This photoshop peace is an exploration and a skill test for me. The pictures are from a trip of mine and the inspiration for it is just as original.
This cover is a focus on photoshop basics and keeping myself up to date on the processes inside photoshop.
First steps
I started with some quick sketches deciding on making a poster. I would make that poster dedicated to a canyon trip that almost went horrifically wrong.
After some testing and repositioning, I decided to resketch because the picture I wanted to use would not for a vertical picture.
Doing the first steps again
When doing thumbnails I decided a magazine cover would look better than a vertical poster.
After arranging the text and getting a quick idea of what fonts I would use I started to design on photoshop.
The modifications applied to the photo are all from the first sketches but the organization is all from the second sketches.

Ending thoughts
I'm happy with how much brighter the picture is and how the rope, originally yellow, helps pull your attention down the page and make the reds more cohesive.
One thing that gives me second thoughts is the gray border. I still like the idea of parts of the photo popping out but I don't like the color I ended with. The sad thing is Yellow looked the best out of all the colors I used but I did not want it to look like a National Geographic magazine. Gray came in second to yellow so I guess it was best.
