Where did the idea of starting the brand come from?
The idea came from the inspiration of artist Luis Gerardo Méndez, who is a lover of art and design and seeks to expand his style to everyday life by merging his works with the world of textiles. This is how Méndez Art & Textile was born.

“Each Méndez art & textile design has as its DNA minimalism and the details of colours, prints and textures that come from art, to achieve it’s own aesthetic”.

Could you tell us the inspiration behind the brands logo?
The logo came from Luis Gerardo Méndez’ works, all of which have a specific drawing pattern that characterises them, this technique has been evolving through the 5 years he has dedicated to art. It gives a uniqueness to each work and achieves a unique identity.

Why combine art with textiles?
We decided to make this combination because art is something that speaks
through the eye and textiles is something that you are in contact with every day. So, we decided to capture the aesthetics of drawing and colour, characterising the works of the artist through the methods of printing and detail, to create pieces of art that you can wear every day.

Which mediums are used to produce the art pieces?
For the elaboration of the art pieces, we use an oil-based marker and acrylic paint on linen canvas. The technique is a mix of drawing and painting.

Would you say the pieces are trend-driven?
Each Méndez Art & Textile design has minimalism in its DNA and the details of colours, prints and textures come from art, achieving its own aesthetic; so we prefer to say that we don’t follow any trends, but we want to create new ones.

Which cities would you like Studio Méndez to expand to?
Mainly to end up covering all of Catalonia and then to cover all of the cities in Spain before continuing with our objective, which is to be an international brand.

Where do you see the brand’s direction in the coming years?
We hope that our achievements speak for themselves, as the art does, so join us on our journey and find out.
