AlliedOffsets is happy to announce the launch of Scopes123, an open-source database powered by AlliedOffsets.

Its aim is to aggregate publicly available data on sustainability and net zero commitments, as well as scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions of companies that participate in the voluntary carbon market (VCM), and the sources of the data.

Ever since we started focusing on corporate activity in the VCM, we wondered how corporate offsetting compares to the emissions of entities we have identified during our buyer matching process. This turned out to be a very time- and labour-consuming process, as there was no publicly available aggregate data on corporate greenhouse gas emissions.

So, we decided to showcase the data we have collected and use in our buyers ratings, as a complementary offering to our VCM buyers’ products. We have also integrated information on corporate revenue and the number of employees so that users can see for themselves who emits relatively more GHG per employee or unit of revenue.

The information is downloadable in a spreadsheet format for any offline data manipulation needed. You can also filter the companies by country of their HQ or sector, and rank them by any of the scopes as well as the number of employees, revenue, or company name (alphabetically).

The database can help answer the following questions, among others:

  • Who’s reporting what emissions?
  • What’s the carbon intensity of companies’ operations?
  • How do companies within an industry compare with each other?
  • Which companies may have a demand for carbon credits or carbon dioxide removal?
  • How do companies fare against their peers?

And can offer the following insights and more:

  • Quick data-snapshots / commentary on developments in the market;
  • Rank the companies by AO scores to understand which companies are using credits that are less valued by the market (more information on this here);
  • Creating industry and geographical benchmarks for company emissions;
  • Finding potential buyers for credits (if a company has lots of unavoidable emissions, might have more demand for credits or removals).

We’re very excited for the general public to start using the data. If you have any questions or notice any discrepancies in the data, feel free to get in touch at hello@alliedoffsets.com.
