How will blockchain technology benefit the healthcare industry?
Jack Liu, founder and CEO of ALLIVE, shared his insights on the future of blockchain and healthcare in an interview recently. Here are several selected questions from the interview to help clarify the basic concept of ALLIVE and how will blockchain technology benefit healthcare industry.
Q: Please introduce Olife, Olivia, and Oleaf. What do they do, and how are they interrelated?
A: Basically, ALLIVE is an intelligent healthcare ecosystem based on blockchain technology. It is comprised of three modules: Olife builds a self-perfecting profile of individual’s health data, Olivia acts as an artificial intelligent general doctor, and Oleaf creates a comprehensive healthcare service system.
Olife is an encrypted, comprehensive, and self-perfecting health profile for each individual through the distributed health data network, thus breaking the data silos and transitioning evidence-based medicine to personalized healthcare. Olife helps the patient know themselves better, helps doctors know their patients more thoroughly. Users can also contribute to ALLIVE by granting data access to medical researchers in exchange for ALV tokens.
Olivia is a major-hospital-qualified AI doctor by formulating a medical knowledge map with machine learning algorithms (Natural Language Processing-NLP) through the combination of digital technology and medical databanks. Olivia can answer all the questions about health and illness, for example, if the user, a diabetic patient, travels to someplace, and Olivia can remind the person to choose foods that are suitable for diabetic people.
Oleaf is a closed-loop of a healthy lifestyle by integrating full-progress healthcare services in a decentralized fashion covering general health management, doctor’s appointment, prescription filling, and insurance processing. It is on-chain hosting services for DAPPs with computer resources, bandwidth, IPFS file storage, big data analysis, and artificial intelligence technology.
These three independent products formed an ecosystem of AI medical environment. After the patient input his/her symptoms, Olivia, the personal health manager, will make the diagnosis analysis by looking up the Olife database under the Oleaf healthcare system. The health history of this patient is a very important criterion for Olivia to make medical decisions, and the self-management system with structured data can help Olivia to locate the key question quickly.
Q: What’s the purpose of ALLIVE? Why does ALLIVE combine healthcare with blockchain?
A：Today’s healthcare system shockingly lags behind the rest of the world in terms of data collection, storage, and transfer. In the closed-loop of comprehensive healthcare, witnessing the isolated healthcare services, it is a huge waste of information if we failed to collect the valuable healthcare data and provide services to patients and doctors. The purpose of ALLIVE is to provide the equitable, shareable, visible, and transparent information service to patients, doctors, and hospitals.
Q: What are some difficulties with applying blockchain to the healthcare industry?
A: Similar to healthcare ecosystem, blockchain technology has some shortcomings. ALLIVE will be innovative to build the database and apply the latest technique to healthcare industry. The diagnoses made by AI shows the accumulation of technical progress and the collection of clinical experience from real doctors.
Q: How can ALLIVE solve the healthcare industry’s problems?
A: I realized the healthcare systems today are isolated, nontransparent, and messy. ALLIVE wants to update patients with their health conditions. ALLIVE can answer questions like, what kind of illness do I have, how is their life if some other people had the same illness with me, or, which doctor/ hospital should I go to?
Not only could ALLIVE answer the basic questions from patients, ALLIVE can also answer the questions such as whom the patients should turn to, what’s the diagnose analyze, and what is the medical procedure. However, the initial purpose of ALLIVE is to prepare people with more knowledge about the illness and have a better understanding of health. For instance, the person may avoid the illness if there was a system that could monitor his/her health data two years ago. It is like the physical examination in advance.
ALLIVE can keep users away from the potential diseases and save money and time for them. ALLIVE can also prepare patients with more knowledge of their diseases, which helps them to cooperate well with medical orders.
Q: How can DAPPs be valuable on ALLIVE?
A: ALLIVE needs to establish a full-progress service that includes healthcare data, the deep-learning algorithm for diagnoses, and the closed-loop system. ALLIVE should be on-chain, otherwise, users cannot form a whole healthcare profile.
To make each DAPP valuable, ALLIVE needs to make them on the chain. Based on the blockchain technology, Olife, Olivia, and Oleaf are the three products making profits by sharing information. ALLIVE is trying to reach an agreement among these three fields that everyone can make profits if information can be shared. The key thing is to convince people to trust each other and share their exclusive data.
Q: Please tell us more about ALLIVE’s leadership team?
A: I started to invest in blockchain in 2015 because at that time I realized blockchain is a good technical solution to the healthcare problem. Blockchain has a great reputation financially, we hope blockchain technology bring more credibility to healthcare industry. From 2009 to 2018, the technique of Blockchain has developed very quickly, it’s time to find something worth to be invested.
Five spectacular partners from different fields consist of our senior leadership. CTO, he was the senior manager of Alcatel-Lucent. Although he earns less when he invests ALLIVE, he still believes in the healthcare industry with blockchain technology. Yong Zhang, Head of Nokia R&D in Nanjing. He is one of the earliest contributors to China’s distributed heterogeneous platform software. George Wu is an international expert in nerve injury and repair, tumor and cardiovascular diseases. His wife and his father are also cardiovascular surgeons. George perfectly completes the medical knowledge shortage of ALLIVE team.
We also have a strong management team that has many directors taking charge of different programs. They make sure ALLIVE can efficiently connect aspects like medical, healthcare management, health consuming, health payment, and medical researches.
Q: Can you lay out some basic information about ALV, the token of ALLIVE?
A: The total supply of ALLIVE token is 6,000,000,000 ALV. The number of the token is settled. ALLIVE wants every person to join in to create healthcare management system. 40% of token was sold to the Community, 25% were bought by private placement.
Q: What is your upcoming plan for the ALLIVE token?
A: In the second quarter of 2018, we released intelligent knowledge Map V1.0, At the third quarter, our strategic partners will confirm the ALV generation, and during the last quarter, the Olivia Beta Version will release first batch of DAPPs launch in ALLIVE Wallet. In the coming year, the second batch of DAPPs Launch will be on ALLIVE Testnet, the third batch will launch on ALLIVE Mainnet.
