Let there be light
What is the greatest invention on earth? One’s opinion may be different from another; however, it is unfathomable that the invention of light bulb 150 years ago is one of the most important invention that helps shape our lives today.
When it comes to light bulbs, there is always one name that is engraved in our minds: Thomas Alva Edison. However, there were more people who toyed with the idea of incandescent lighting, such as Italian inventor Alessandro Volta who invented the first practical way to generate electricity: the voltaic pile. Currently, you can find voltaic piles in modern batteries, but the concept remains as the earliest idea of incandescent lighting.
More names followed Volta’s footsteps. Humphrey Davy, an English inventor, managed to invent the world’s first electric lamp by connecting voltaic piles to charcoal electrodes. Canadian inventors Henry Woodward and Matthew Evans developed an electric lamp with different-sized carbon rods held between electrodes in a nitrogen-filled glass cylinder. They tried to commercialize it, but they failed and finally sold the patent to Thomas Edison, who had done research on light bulbs for two years from 1878 to 1880. Hence, Edison is the most well-known inventor of light bulbs by patenting the first practical incandescent light bulb.
After the first patent, the commercializing of a new standard was born. A new era that opened new doors of possibilities and opportunities. In this day and age, we have so many different innovations surrounding us that we lose sight of what started it all. How we live our lives today is greatly impacted by each and every one of these great inventions. One such invention is the brand new light bulb by Allocacoc in the shape of the iconic Cube.
We live in a day and age where technologies are digital, smart, and compatible with most of the industry standards. Our need to be coherent and relative to our customer base has pushed us to analyze these problems and look for new answers that simplifies peoples lives in different ways.
Flexibility of Light
Unlike most bulbs, the LightCube comes with a plug so that it can be placed anywhere providing a unique level of flexibility. No lighting fixtures are needed. Moreover, it has gesture control meaning you can turn it on or off by waving your hand in front of the LightCube. Place your hand in front of the sensor on the cube and it dims its light. These features give us a new way to control the ambience in our surrounding. Combined with our accessories (e.g. LightStand, LightFix, LightShade) it can be used as a floor lamp, ceiling lamp, table lamp, wall lamp, spotlight etc. The LightCube also comes with a rechargeable battery making it ideal for people that are most of the time on the go. It is also compatible with most wall switches.
The designer of the LightCube hopes to solve modern day problems with her inventions and believes in a more environmental friendly approach to solving them. The LightCube is one such invention by Nana New, Designer at Allocacoc. To support us and our project, please back us up on kickstarter; http://buff.ly/2oHQl5J.
