Welcome to the Family, Monument!
Monument’s elevator pitch
Personalized Treatment To Change Your Relationship With Alcohol. Online community, medical care, and a place to manage it all.
The next chapter together
We partnered with Mike Russell and Justin Geller through their previous startup, Paintzen, which successfully exited to a Fortune 500 Company (Monument is actually the third startup they’ve worked on together). We aim to build lifetime relationships with founders by delivering an exceptional founder experience, and it was our privilege that they came to back to work with us again. While we likely would have backed them whatever their next endeavor, it was a no-brainer given the mission and magnitude of the problem. And they supercharged the team with the addition of Amit Klein, former Head of Product at Nexar and co-founder StartupGiraffe.
We’ve found that some of the best venture outcomes are sparked by a team with deep passion and a sense of personal mission.
Necessity is the mother of invention
Mike was inspired to create Monument after searching for treatment to change his own drinking habits. And Mike isn’t alone: 15 million people in the US have what is known as Alcohol Use Disorder, nearly 40 million people drink too much per the CDC, and even more people are struggling than we know. And as a result of COVID-19, millions are struggling to control their drinking due to isolation, anxiety, and inaccessible coping mechanisms.
Confronted with inconsistent information and a lack of options that fit with his lifestyle and preferences, Mike did the research and ultimately discovered a combination of medication and therapy that worked for him. Now, Mike is working to make those tools more personalized and accessible than ever before, and changing the future of the treatment landscape altogether.
Designed to support sobriety or moderation, Monument connects people to peer support and affordable medical treatment customized to their goals and lifestyle — entirely online. Monument has worked with leading experts in the addiction field to build research-based treatment plans, which include access to an anonymous community, virtual therapist-led support groups, and options for one-on-one video therapy and physician-prescribed medication.
