Two trademarks have been applied for by Tencent in connection with the concept of ‘metaverse,’ a concept that refers to an immersive virtual world created by a combination of augmented reality and virtual reality. Chinese enterprise database Tianyancha says Timi made an application for trademarks “Timi Metaverse” and “Kings Metaverse” on Sept. 3. Tencent’s Timi gaming studio may be referred to as Timi, while “Kings” refers to the mobile game Honor of Kings developed by Tencent. In an update, the technology group Tencent applied for the trademark “QQ Metaverse” and has previously applied for “Kings Metaverse” and “Timi Metaverse”. Global gaming unicorn Roblox and Tencent have secured a license to launch the Roblox gaming platform in early 2020.
