Amazon’s Decision To Hide The Impact Of Trump Tariffs Is Spineless
Extremely disappointed in Amazon and its leadership. I’m not surprised but I’m still disgusted nonetheless.
Apparently the Trump administration contacted Amazon leadership to let them know that the company’s plan to separately break out the impact of tariffs (to directly show how they contributed to higher prices) is being considered a “hostile and political act.” Hearing this Amazon quickly backed down and scrapped the proposal.
It’s obvious why the White House thinks this — they’re getting progressively more scared of the backlash from their trade war fiasco. And this would be a direct and highly visible accounting of the cost to consumers from all of Trump’s shenanigans. It’s data and numbers that would hold them directly accountable.
But from day one this administration’s problem has not just been its foolishness and stubbornness to do things in a bad way, but also its extreme lack of accountability when things turn out for the worse.
It’s not just the lies and denials. The worst thing is the Trump administration’s attempts to manipulate and bully the free press, independent organizations like the Federal Reserve, and corporate America.
