Divided We Fall

Our country is at a crossroads. Our inability to work together in a rational and objective manner has significantly increased the probability of the U.S. losing its global number one status.

You might think why does that matter. Who cares if we’re number one? And normally I would agree with you. But we live in tense times, and the U.S.’ standing in the world has consequences for both the global economy and world peace. The way of life that we take for granted is more at risk today than it’s been in a long time. Being a clear number one (both economically and militarily) provides the following helpful things:

  1. Reserve currency status.
  2. Deep capital markets.
  3. Geopolitical influence that helps keep most of the world relatively peaceful.
  4. Deters countries that want the benefits and influence of being number one from attacking us (the most definite way to become number one is to win a war against the incumbent number one).
  5. The ability to export our way of life, culture, language, and products (which justified or not significantly expands the global opportunities available to Americans).
  6. The ability to attract talented individuals from other countries because they believe that the best career opportunities for themselves and the best education for their children are…
