Thanks For 2K Alpha Beta Followers!
Wow, it’s been a slog getting these last 500 followers. I started this publication in late 2020 and hit 1K followers in less than a year (summer 2021) and 1500 followers not long after in early 2022.
Then it was like I was walking in mud. I was partially to blame — life (and work) got busy and after writing several pieces a week for multiple years, I got writer’s block. I felt like I didn’t have as much to say, and the ideas and inspiration that seemed so available and forthcoming just a year ago, suddenly vanished. The well was dry.
Thinking back, I was probably a little burned out. It didn’t help that Medium’s distribution algorithm took a turn for the worse, dropping my readership and earnings substantially. Motivation that was already waning from writer’s block got hit with a double whammy.
But I’m proud of myself for sticking with it and I really appreciate you all for sticking with me and reading my work through thick and thin. Medium has been my home for thinking, learning, and teaching for the past 5 years, and I just can’t bring myself to quit.
So even though or maybe because it took so unexpectedly long to finally hit this milestone (over 2 years!), it feels especially satisfying. Hopefully there are many more to come — thank you all for your support!
