Betting On Games of Thrones : Who Will Rule Westeros?
We asked this question three weeks ago, but now we are few episodes in and the game is already changing. Oddsmakers have turned this television obsession into big money, and a number of sportsbooks have new markets available.
Punters betting on Game of Thrones get to place stakes on wagers like ‘Who will rule Westeros?’, and ‘Who will kill Cersei?’
Bookmakers tend to shy away from setting up novelty/prop bets on shows as they aren’t as lucrative as other major events. However, the demand, while not as abundant, is clearly there. Bovada began publishing prop bets on Game of Thrones in 2015, and it was quickly followed by other bookies who saw the audience’s interest.

Who Will Rule Westeros? The Odds
The premiere gave us a mix of everything we love about Game of Thrones: deaths, wedding rejections, grand promises, fall-outs, Ed Sheeran, and dragons.
Season 7 is still in ‘set-up’ mode, so the top contenders get to keep their places (and their heads) for now. But, since our last article, things have gotten a bit more complicated.
For those who still haven’t placed a bet on ‘Who will Rule Westeros?’, one market is still open at Skybet. The odds are:
- Daenerys Targaryen — 2.00
- Jon Snow — 3.00
- Tyrion Lannister — 6.00
- Gendry — 8.00
- Arya Stark — 10.00
- Euron Greyjoy -10.00
One major change is the placement of Euron Greyjoy, who rose in popularity after last episode’s events.
The winner of this market will be whichever character rules the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros as Head of State from the Iron Throne at the end of the TV Series, not just Series 7.
If there is more than 1 ruler on the throne at the end then Dead Heat Rules Apply. In the event that there isn’t a ruler then bets will be void.
Where Are The Contenders Now?
Daenerys, Euron, and Cersei
Daenerys currently has dragons, an army, and more advisors than anyone ever, from Tyrion, Lady Olenna, to Varys.
But, Euron defeated and captured both Yara Greyjoy and Elia Martell, and Cersei now has access to weapons that wound dragons. Suddenly, her road to becoming the ruler of Westeros looks a bit harder.
Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, and LittleFinger
Jon Snow is now heading south to meet Daenerys. This can both lead to a fantastic alliance or a disaster.
We’re quite sure Jon Snow won’t be harmed by Daenerys, but this is Game of Thrones, so we wouldn’t bet on it. Now, Sansa is regent of the north, and Littlefinger seems delighted by this.
Arya
After learning that her brother has become King in the North with Sansa, Arya decides to make her way back to him. But Arya’s brief encounter with Nymeria, who leaves despite her pleas, suggests that it won’t be that simple with Arya.
Arya finally just repeats ‘that’s not you’, reminding us what she told her father when he wanted her to marry like conventional ladies. Like her dire wolf, Arya has her own life now, and we don’t think it will be with her brother in North.

Other Bets On Game of Thrones:
Who Will Kill Cersei?
Cersei survived Robert Baratheon, her own father, destroyed the Great Sept of Baelor, and got herself crowned as Queen.
Although her prospects looked dim in the season finale, her alliance with Euron Greyjoy has given her a chance against Daenerys.
With the Tyrells, Dorne, the North, and Daenerys all coming for her head, we all know that Cersei will die sooner or later.
Question is, who will kill her?
The odds, as offered by Bovada, are:
- Jaime Lannister -1.50
- Tyrion Lannister- 7.50
- Someone or something else -2.25
Our suggestion: Jaime Lannister
Cersei had received a prophecy that suggested she will be killed by a little brother.
Technically, both Jaime and Tyrion are her younger brothers. Also, Jaime Lannister had to kill the mad King to stop him from causing the deaths of thousands. Will he have to do the same with Cersei?
After using wildfire to destroy the Great Sept of Baelor and wipe out everyone inside, this seems likely.
Novelty Bets: Is Betting On Game of Thrones Worth It?
You won’t find novelty bets as easily as you would find other bets, for example, a football match, but there are several advantages to placing stakes on props for TV shows and other entertainment.
#It Will Help You Avoid Bookmaker’s Restrictions
As explained in our article on avoiding restrictions>>
Bookmakers try to identify the sharp punters who are in it for the money from casual punters who just want to bet for fun. Casual punters tend to have little strategy, and they spend their bankroll in many different markets — usually markets that aren’t that valuable.
By placing some money on novelty bets such as ‘Who will be the next Doctor?’ (Doctor Who), or ‘Who will win X Factor?’, traders are likely to believe you are a casual player. This will help you avoid being restricted.
#You Get To Be Part Of The Conversation
If you love the show and hate spoilers, betting on Game of Thrones may not be a good idea. If you want to make money, you need to look at trailers, teasers, any possible leaks, and spend some time on Reddit.
Research is key to becoming a successful punter. This will also require you to engage in conversations with other experts. This can be done through Reddit, Facebook, and with your friends or colleagues.
#It Can Be Lots Of Fun
The rush of adrenaline pro punters experiences when a betting is a wonderful experience.
It is that thrill of outwitting the bookies that punters chase. When you bet on something you are already passionate about like Game of Thrones, the bets you win will make you feel wonderful, and the bad bets will make you feel awful.
Finding some emotional distance is fine, but don’t forget to enjoy yourself. Just don’t get carried away.
Take it easy, you’re just betting money on fictional characters.

To Conclude
So, who will get to kill Cersei Lannister? And have your thoughts changed about who will claim the Iron Throne?
Keep your ears to the ground and look for market opportunities that will be out on Game of Thrones as new episodes come out.
For odds on Game of Thrones, we recommend Bovada, Sportingbet, and Skybet.
Let’s get betting, Winter is coming!
