Install the Alpha Vantage Google Sheets Add-on from the Chrome Store

The Alpha Vantage Google Sheets Add-on can be installed for an individual through the Chrome Store. The quickest way is to open a new spreadsheet and under the Add-ons menu choose “Get add-ons.”

This will bring you to the Chrome Store. Search for “Alpha Vantage” and you should find an Add-on named “Alpha Vantage Market Data.”

Click the “+ FREE” button to install the Add-on. Google will request that you approve permissions necessary for the Add-on to function. This will look like

Please click “Allow” to enable the Add-on. The add-on requires 3 types of permissions.

• Access to the Spreadsheet API to allow the Add-on to modify spreadsheets
• Enable user interface features like menus, dialogs and alerts
• Enable the script to call out to alphavantage.co (external service) to return market data

If successful you should see:

Refresh your browser window if necessary to make sure the Add-on menu is initialized. Then enter your API Key using the Add-on menu

which will open a dialog where you can enter your API Key.

NOTE: One of the great things about Google Sheets is the ability to share with others. However, please be aware that if you share your spreadsheet with someone you may expose your API Key to them. Additionally, any invocations of the spreadsheet will count against your data limits. Please only share your spreadsheets within your organization or with trusted individuals.
