Community concerns about airdrop eligibility and transparency

We have heard the community’s concerns over the Airdrop and understand many of you feel let down by the lack of transparency on eligibility and how allocations were determined.

We are taking the following steps to provide greater clarity:

  1. Core eligibility criteria
  2. Why someone missed out on an allocation
  3. How allocations were calculated
  4. Future community rewards

These steps will not change airdrop entitlements.

We set aside 2% of token supply from the TGE and 2m tokens have been allocated.

However, we have made mistakes throughout this process.

Especially in our communications around eligibility, snapshot timing and on the claim page where we failed to distinguish between someone being ineligible and missing out via the lottery.

We are trying to address these mistakes by helping people who were ineligible understand why. What specific criteria made you ineligible ?

And by providing more information around how we calculated allocation amounts and what to expect in terms of future rewards.

We recognise this will not be enough for everyone. Some of you will remain dissatisfied or disappointed. We understand this and apologize for not delivering on what you expected of us.

Core eligibility criteria including snapshot timing

To be eligible for the Airdrop a community member had to meet the following criteria:

  • Smart Layer pass must have a registered and confirmed email address
  • Smart Layer pass must be migrated.
  • The migrated pass wallet used for Airdrop claim
  • Migrated pass must have the Discord ID linked and it must be the Discord ID that was used to join the Smart Layer Discord
  • The Discord ID must have the role “verified” within our Smart Layer Discord
  • Must have at least 1 Adopted Cat in the migrated pass wallet OR linked wallets
  • Adopted cat must have been played so a points balance above 0 points

The snapshot for the Airdrop allocation was the afternoon of Wednesday 21st February.

Two key points on the above:

  1. If you met the eligibility criteria and did not receive an allocation it’s because you were not in Tier One OR you missed out via the lottery.
  2. We should have been definitive about the snapshot. We framed it as a“dynamic snapshot” because future rewards are tied to ongoing points and activity. This was a mistake. Being ambiguous has created a lack of trust, which we are responsible for.

Find out why you missed out on an allocation

We have updated the claim page to provide greater transparency to those who missed out.

If you missed out on an allocation, you can reconnect your wallet here to find out if you were ineligible due to the criteria above. Or, if you were in fact eligible but missed out via the lottery process.

Finding out why you missed out clearly doesn’t change the outcome and we understand it will not resolve all disappointment or dissatisfaction.

We acknowledge we should have done better with the original claim page communications.

How we determined allocation amounts

Some people have expressed disappointment around allocations based on comparisons with other points balances or perceived activity.

To distribute 2m tokens in a way that was as fair and as effective as possible in rewarding real people with meaningful allocations, we had to make a series of calculations involving trade-offs. We built an allocation algorithm that recognised and weighted a number of factors including activity, points and holdings.

We understand not everyone is happy with the outcome. However, we have rewarded community members with 2% of the token supply. This is 100% more than we had originally planned in our draft tokenomics paper released last year. It was increased in consultation with our investors and in recognition of the scale and efforts of our community.

The algorithm was designed with the best efforts of our team to eliminate bots and reward those who have contributed and been highly active.

Nevertheless, many active members who put great efforts into raising cats or playing with loot toys have missed out. Either through eligibility criteria above or via the lottery.

Future community rewards

For those who wish to continue on the journey with us, there are many future rewards and incentives you can become eligible for.

We know who has held Adopted Cats and Cat Loot Toys and the points you have accrued via this and other activity. We have full visibility on points balances and who received Airdrop allocations and who missed out despite having significant points or high-level cats.

Importantly, among those of you that have missed out on allocations we have identified 3 groups of users that will be given reward priority through 2024:

  • Any member who missed out on an allocation via the lottery
  • Any member who was ineligible but had high-level adopted cats or high-level loot toys
  • Any member with historical roles in Discord that missed out on other eligibility criteria

There are a number of ways we can create priority reward opportunities moving forward. This can include but is not limited to:

  • Priority access to partner airdrop allocations
  • Early access to token launches from Smart Layer or partners via Launchpad
  • Bonus yield for staking of $SLN across the ecosystem including Launchpad
  • Exclusive traits, skins, or entitlements related to existing xNFTs (Cats and Loot)

While we cannot do an additional $SLN Airdrop, we are committed to rewarding those who have missed out in the ways outlined above. Over the coming weeks the Discord team will start rolling out initiatives in line with the above.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has been on the journey with us so far. We greatly appreciate all of your efforts and contributions.

We have learned a lot from the past week. And we have done our best to respond effectively to your concerns and your feedback. We commit to continuing to listen and working with you all as the Smart Layer journey continues.
