Being on Twitter is sometimes like being the host at a giant cocktail party — one that’s open to the public. You never know who is going to ring the doorbell.

(doorbell rings) Hey! It’s the band!

Please welcome StereoKid, from Toronto, Canada. I’m always fascinated by the people who choose to follow me (and I often wonder “Why?”) so I head over to their website to check them out.

The song I found first is “No Tomorrow.” With a keen eye for sexy detail, director Kris Bonnell takes us to a pool party. The host is in the kitchen and on the balcony, trying to convince us to take a break from all the responsibility, to seize the day, to revel in the hedonic moment — “Let’s pretend there’s no tomorrow.”

Next, I found this live medley of Daft Punk songs, and it’s awesome to watch. A lot of people think musicians “get their money for nothing,” but this video reminds me of of how Frank Zappa ended his shows, by saying “It’s been a pleasure working for you.”

This band is working. Getting this set right took a few tries. According to an off-camera voice, this is “Take 1000.” There’s a pause around midway (chimes in the background), and you can see everyone stretching their shoulders, getting ready for the next half.

Stereokid’s newest release is “Mission for Love” (March 2014). It’s clear from the video that director Kris Bonnell has found some new toys. Images mirror and overlap, go transparent, even kaleidescopic. Given the skill demonstrated in his earlier work, the gimmicks seem unnecessary. I suppose an artist has to experiment. In any case, the song is excellent.
