The #Edcamp of Literacy Journals

Posts from the Near Future of Alt.Pub Explorations

We started Alt.Pub Explorations to show we can develop our own pathways to publications. In 2016 W. Ian O’Byrne and I want to empower literacy researchers to embrace the Open Web. Alt.Pub will bring our vision to you.

We will be the edcamp of academic journals. Using an open peer review process we will allow the community to suggest different sections in the publications and nominate themselves as section editors. Want to run a series on phonics? Start a section. Want to describe the literary affordances of some minecraft mod. Welcome to join us.

Don’t want your story to live with us? Need it to live behind a paywall for promotion and tenure. Thats fine. Pull the story. Vote with your feet.

This will be really freaking hard

We will need to get up a team of open reviewers. We will need authors and section editors. Readers would be nice too.

The goal is nothing short of amazing. Let’s rethink academic publishing and empower the people who actually do the writing.
