The theme of 2018 was focus. Focus on quality not quantity. Focus on depth instead of breadth.
Our focus on Web Development
This year, we have made a bold move — instead of teaching several courses in many subjects, we are only teaching web development. We want to build the best curriculum and learning experience for web development before expanding into other subjects!
In fact, we wrote a 16,000-word syllabus on web development.
Our focus on depth
Our mission is to help students go from absolute 0 to a legit professional coder. So, we have built depth in NanoMajor programs in 2018.
Our curriculum built by industry experts evolves based on student questions and feedbacks. 60% of students’ questions are answered within 60 minutes, and 99+% are answered within 24 hours. You learn by doing and building things from scratch — the best methodology to build competency. At the end of our NanoMajor programs, you have a chance to work on your own ideas and build their portfolios. Last but not least, we introduced Career Guidance where you will be prepped to land a job as a coder with interview prep, resume reviews and technical question practices.
Our focus on students
In 2018, we spent a lot more time talking with our students. We talked about motivations and priorities behind their studies. It helped us understand the importance of what we do and appreciate the amount of commitments our students have taken to learn coding.
- William’s story: “It’s important to have a basic understanding on how to build a product. I want to keep my full-time job and learn part-time.”
- Desislava’s story: “I felt that there’s some gap between what I know and what I want to accomplish, so I wanted to learn more.”
- Nicole’s story: “I like the experience that I can be very independent while learning: reading the materials, finishing the exercises, and doing the coding assignments, but when I have any problem, my teacher is online to help me instantly.”
- Michelle’s story: “I’ve also developed a good habit to publish my work online, such as Github. Sharing your work can inspire others!”
- Christl’s story: “ I learnt that you have to learn 2 things in life: learn how to code and learn how to write. You need to know technology, and you need to know communications.”
- Bennett’s story: “Ultimately, I want to get a job in software development.”
- Michael’s story: “We have become more dependent on the use of the internet. Web development is an important element during this digital age.”
Our focus on 100% online learning platform
We have developed a majority of our online learning platform in 2018. Our students have been enjoying the learning experiences on Altcademy Classroom.
The main features are: content delivery, questions and answers, assignments, exercises, integrated coding environment, and more!
These were our focus in 2018. We are looking forward to exciting opportunities in 2019.
