25,000 stores and 30 brands in France, including Boulanger, Foot Locker, Decathlon, Conforama, Maison du Monde, Intersport, Cultura, Norauto and Sephora, will start accepting Bitcoin next year, according to a press release published by Le Figaro.

The solution will be implemented by East2Play startup, which owns the EasyWallet application, in collaboration with Global POS. At the same time, it will not affect the operational activities of stores, since cryptocurrency receipts will automatically be converted into euros.

On the EasyWallet website, among other things, the Ethereum logo is presented, however, at present, it is only about transactions in Bitcoin.

“Initially, the service will allow only Bitcoins, but in the future, we plan to open our solution to other cryptocurrencies,” said Stéphane Djiane, CEO of Global POS.

According to Le Figaro, information about the launch of the project was disclosed on the sidelines of the Paris Retail Week, and a number of partner companies confirmed their participation. The publication also refers to various polls conducted in 2017–2018, according to which from 3 to 6 percent of the French can own cryptocurrency.

It is expected that the implementation of this plan was made possible by the adoption last year by the French authorities to the law, is largely positive for the crypto industry.

At the same time, the country’s leadership is wary of initiatives that could undermine its monetary sovereignty. Recently, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire announced a plan to prevent the distribution of Libra stablecoin in the European Union.
