Earlier this month, Bnatov Platon, a self-proclaimed Binance hacker, released sensitive KYC data allegedly collected by Binance clients and raised on the crypto market as part of KYC verification. On Twitter, Platon now wrote that the first release was only the beginning and is expected soon with further leaks.

In early August of this year, a user named Bnatov Platon published sensitive data via the messaging service Telegram. Photos were taken which according to his statements were collected by Binance customers as part of the KYC verification.

So far, however, it is unclear whether this is actually KYC data from Binance or another crypto exchange. Binance promised to initiate a comprehensive investigation and rejected the allegation of a data breach for the time being.

In a statement released on August 7, Binance claims the hacker would charge 300 BTC in return for withholding 10,000 photos. Next, it says:

“ We are still investigating this case for legitimacy and relevancy. […] At the present time, no evidence has been supplied that indicates any KYC images have been obtained from Binance, as these images do not contain the digital watermark imprinted by our system.

In addition, Binance states that the leaked images are dated February 2018 when Binance commissioned a third party to provide KYC verification:

“On initial review of the images made public, they all appear to be dated from February of 2018, at which time Binance had contracted a third-party vendor for KYC verification in order to handle the high volume of requests at that time.”

If you believe the words of the “hacker”, you can count on more leaks. On Twitter, Platon recently commented on his first release “ Warming up” In addition, he claims he has possession of other data that he plans to publish. A series of tweets also include conversations with a member of the Binance Security Team.
