Altcoin News: Bitcoins Stolen from Bitfinex in 2016 Again Set in Motion
The next portion of Bitcoins stolen from the Bitfinex exchange left the original wallet.
Twitter account @whale_alert on August 12 drew attention to a transaction in which hackers transferred 30 BTC or $327,000 to a previously unused address.
Bitfinex was hacked in 2016 — then 119 756 BTC were stolen from its wallets. At that time, the production of attackers amounted to $350 million, but over the years its size exceeded to $1.3 billion.
Most of the cryptocurrency is still considered lost. This year, US law enforcement agencies were able to get traced 22.66 BTC which led to this attack and returned them to Bitfinex.
In June was seen no less mysterious transfer of 172.54 BTC from stolen funds. The operation generated a lot of rumors, but Bitfinex hastened to refute its involvement in it. It is assumed that if Bitfinex can still receive some part of the stolen Bitcoins, these funds will go to buy back the LEO token issued by them.
Regarding the latest transfer, the exchange has not yet given any comments.
