According to a study conducted by the CoinGecko, in the first quarter of 2019, the total capitalization of the cryptocurrency market grew by 16.23%.
The report says that among the first five cryptocurrencies in the first quarter of this year, the Litecoin (LTC) rate increased the most, an increase of 103%. Also, a significant increase was demonstrated by the EOS token — 66%. Bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) added 11% and 8%, respectively, while the rate of the Ripple token (XRP) decreased by 11%.
In the first quarter of 2019, three new coins appeared in the top 30 cryptocurrencies — Cosmos (ATOM), Basic Attention Token (BAT) and Crypto.com Chain (CRO). OKEx (OKB) and Binance (BNB) own token also proved to be excellent. The latter even managed to occupy a line in the top ten largest cryptocurrencies, being on the 8th position by the end of the quarter.
The researchers also stressed that in January two coins were launched on the new confidential protocol MimbleWimble — Grin and Beam. The launch of these cryptocurrencies was highly expected in the community since their appearance marks a new level of confidentiality and scalability of the blockchain.
A no less significant topic of the first quarter of this year was the holding of initial exchange offers (IEO), which became very popular after the successful sale of BitTorrent tokens (BTT) on Binance Launchpad. Several exchanges launched their own platform analogues. At the same time, subsequent sales at Binance Launchpad collected less money, and buyers sold tokens immediately after the cryptocurrency entered the market.
