February 19, 2019, by Marko Vidrih on ALTCOIN MAGAZINE
The popularity of Lightning Network (LN) in the Bitcoin blockchain is gaining momentum — the network increases volumes almost every week.
At the moment, LN boasts 6,403 nodes, 28,138 channels and a Network Capacity of more than 700 BTC. Last month alone, the number of nodes, channels, and Network Capacity increased by 15%, 33%, and 28%, respectively.
While the United States has the lion’s share of nodes and channels, as well as almost 80% of network bandwidth, the city with the most nodes is Canadian Toronto. Its nodes provide a Capacity of 24.4 BTC, which puts Toronto in third place in the list of cities most actively influencing the network.
In second place is the German city of Frankfurt with a capacity of 25.2 BTC, and the first is the city of Ashburn in the US state of Virginia. The fourth place is occupied by another German city of Nuremberg. According to general influence statistics, the first twenty of other cities include Berlin, Hamburg, Singapore, and Amsterdam, which indicates that the Lightning Network is most actively distributed in the USA and Western Europe.
LN continues to attract community attention. Recently, a relay transaction between Torch Lightning Network nodes has received the support of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, which has increased the popularity of the network. In addition, last week startup Fold launched a service that allows you to pay for pizza with Bitcoin through Lightning Network.
