Two US regulators, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Institutions Regulatory Agency (FINRA), will discuss cryptocurrency at a meeting of brokers-dealers in June.
As reported on the SEC website, registration for the event is already open. According to the announcement, the 2019 National Regulatory Compliance Program for Brokers-Dealers will be funded by the SEC Inspectorate and Audit Office, the SEC Trade and Markets Division and the FINRA.
The meeting will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and will focus on investor protection and “current regulatory topics,” such as cybersecurity and digital assets. The announcement notes that admission to the event is free, but the number of participants is limited to 250 people and up to four people per company. The event will be broadcast live on the SEC website.
This announcement is in line with recent statements by SEC Chairman Jay Clayton, who said this month that the SEC will continue to work on cryptocurrency regulation.
