Weren’t cryptocurrencies dead already? Well, at least to the banking sector? ABN Amro bank, one of the biggest banks in the Netherlands, begs to differ. They are not alone.

In a conversation on Twitter, it has become evident that the third biggest Dutch bank is testing an integrated wallet and custody solution for cryptocurrencies.

This happened while the Dutch National Bank (DNB) and the Authority of Financial Markets (AFM) recently released a report (in Dutch; page 30) in which their stance towards similar solutions by regulated institutions would not be supportive.

The solution is to be tested with a small group of participants (500) and was, apparently, offered after logging into the banking app. The invitation reads as follows:

“Dear,

We have started with the development of Wallie; a crypto wallet in which cryptocurrencies can be stored easily and safely. The first version of the wallet is specifically suited for Bitcoins and we want to give you the opportunity to use it.
