Former Ethereum Foundation specialist Virgil Griffith has been formally charged for visiting North Korea to disseminate information on cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

According to the Inner City Press, Griffith is accused of “ conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act”

Griffith was arrested in November on charges of federal authorities illegally visiting North Korea in April, despite a refusal by the US State Department to grant him bail.

Griffith was initially denied release, but the court later revised the decision and agreed to release the detainee on bail of $1 million provided by his family. Griffith’s lawyer previously reported that the developer was expelled from the Ethereum Foundation amid these events.

The latest publication also says that Griffith is still in custody. “He has not yet fulfilled the conditions of bail. It is expected that its co-sponsors will be approved and their property will be pledged, ”the statement said.

Information that Griffith is still in custody can also be found in the US Federal Bureau of Prison database.
