The State of ICO Marketing — Complete Research Report

It took some time, much more than I promised it would take, and much more I had hoped. Getting only 7 out of 2600+ ICOs to participate left me feeling unmotivated to pursue the finalization of the report. The type of feeling that I presume many investors have felt over the years when projects simply were not good enough. But even when the results are not good enough, we have to stick to our word, it’s what carries the most value in our lives.

The research was titled “The state of ICO Marketing” and boy it’s a bad state to be in. Less than 1% of ICOs actually read the marketing emails they get. The ones that did and took action on the email are listed below:

These three projects are all I can share for now. Few of the applicants did not want their ICO to be shared publicly, and a few had applied using different non-website email addresses. The latter is an oversight on my part.

Anyways, I was thinking what is the best way to present this information and we can discuss it step by step and look at all of the questions and answers. Below every image, I give my commentary in response to the answers.

Most thought that ICO marketing works exactly the same as digital marketing, which is a sentiment that I share as well. There are underlying technologies that would be useful for people to understand in order to make informed decisions as an investor. But most people don’t, because what they focus on is “What can your product do for me?” and that’s to be expected.

Marketing in this crypto world is really the same. Figure out what people want, and give it to them in the context of your product and service”

People don’t have a lot of time, and in today’s world every second is a wasted one (associated with physically uncomfortable feelings), and you can observe this in you when your smartphone or internet is just a tad bit slower.

Consumers have limited time, energy, and patience, so you need to vary up your game and keep presenting your project in different packages. Identify what works, what doesn’t think of a different angle or relevant audience.

Most of the 7 marketers that took this survey said that this was their first project ever, which is to be expected. The availability of the crypto ecosystem is an open invitation for everyone looking for a new experience.

I have no idea what “Option 2" really is 😕

I had sent the invitation to participate to a list generated from ICO tracking websites, and I sent it to both ongoing and finished ICOs. Finished ICOs are lacking here. At least two of the ICOs have finished successfully, so they were mostly right about the sentiment. The rest are yet to start, but considering their business model and innovative technology (looking at you VREO) they are bound to succeed.

Self-explanatory. Community management is super important.

Email marketing is the equivalent of dating your customers! Don’t ignore it.
There were no overlaps in the choice of traffic. Only shows that different things work better for different projects and messages. Or is it the marketers themselves that have a preference?
