Alternative Perspectives Will No Longer Publish Stories on the Ukraine Crisis
A brief explanation
The situation in Ukraine is awful, and from a personal perspective my thoughts are with all those suffering — from the Ukrainian civilians to the Russians protesters.
I’m reticent to write anything more specific on the crisis, because the truth is that information is a weapon — during war as it is at all times. I’ve found myself forming several strong opinions only to later question them based on new information, and I don’t feel it’s my place (or that of this publication) to opine on what could ultimately turn out to be misinformation.
Over the weeks and months, I’ve published a number of stories regarding the situation. Many of them I’ve agreed with, while others I’ve felt less sure of but felt their intentions were good.
But I’ve also hesitated over many more submissions. Some have speculated over motivations, offering opinions as fact, while some push for their own desired solutions. Particularly, there are a number who want direct military action.
The desire to do something, anything, to end the suffering sooner is a natural one. But given the very real possibility of a world war, not to mention the morality of transferring civilian casualties elsewhere, is this a route…
