Pause

While life is a journey where we walk and run with God, there must be times when we come to a pause. Notice that the pause symbol is usually displayed as “II” (double stroke). This comes from the word “caesura” which means a complete pause (//) in a verse or musical composition. The root meaning of this word in greek/latin is “cutting”. Think of pause as a pair of scissor which has two pairs of blades.

There will be things in our lives which slow us down as we journey — sins, mistakes, shame, failures, strongholds, etc. These are the things that we must cut away so that we can move on.

Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”

How do we cut these things away then? The word of God. The bible says that the word of God is sharp, able cut between the soul and spirit and exposes our thoughts and desires. God will speak to us through the bible. His written words will become spoken words. God’s word will cause us to bring our thoughts and desires before Him. As we submit them to God, He will lead us into making decisions (cutting off) to abandon things which weigh us down.

So as you run this race for God and walk this journey into eternity, remember to pause often. Come before God regularly and dwell His Holy presence. His word will expose the things that hold us back. The very act of cutting can be painful, but it is the truth spoken in love.

Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
”Be still and know that I am God.”

Are you able to find the symbol “pause” in this verse? If you can, then you will understand where I am coming from.

Be sti(ll) and know that He is God.
