We can know about God but not know God. We can know God but not walk with God. As Christians, we want to grow deeper and more intimate in our relationship with our God. We want to wait on God as He invites us into His holy presence. We want to walk with God as He desires to walk with us.

1. General Information

When we know about God, we have “head” knowledge that God exists. We know about the bible. We know about the stories and characters in the bible. We may even have the notes of each and every sermon stored in our mobile devices and written in our notebooks. Knowing about God and the word of God is reading the “logos” which is the inspired word of God, though it is important, it is just the first level of our relationship with God.

2. Specific Revelation

From knowing about God, we must progress to know God. We must learn to know God as a living person who desires to speak to us.

Hebrews 4:12a (NLT)
For the word of God is alive and powerful.

Notice that the verse says that the word of God (Logos) is alive. The logos is God himself and God has a “rhema” which is the spoken word for each and every season of our lives. Just as we have conversations with people in our lives, we must have “rhema” conversations with God on a regular basis. Seek God, wait on God and let God speak and reveal Himself to us.

3. Habitual Action

While it is significant to have a powerful “rhema” or revelational moment, the moment must progress to a momentum and eventually to a movement. From knowing about God to knowing God, we must eventually progress to walking with God — not just a short walk but a walk into eternity.

Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

Let’s dive deeper into this verse. This is David’s writing of his prayer (meditation) and he mentioned that God’s word is a lamp to his feet and a light to his path. Feet are for walking and a path is for someone to walk upon. David’s knowledge about the “logos” caused him to pray and seek God for a “rhema” so that he can walk with God.

He had general information about God, but he wanted a specific revelation from God so that he can from a habitual action of walking with God.

  • General information = know about the word of God
  • Specific revelation = know God / wait on God
  • Habitual action = walk with God

Let’s take a walk (not a stroll, but a journey) with God into eternity, shall we?
