Here’s why you should take that solo trip before turning 30!!

I’m an Indian and a woman. And now I can practically visualize you visualizing the Indian society and me. I know that you’ve heard several weird stories about the Indian families such as we usually live with our parents till we get married, our opinions are never taken into account by our family elders, we often aren’t allowed to choose our own partners since we as Indian Women aren’t encouraged to think for ourselves etc., etc., which by the way are TRUE!! So you ask that how in heaven’s name will we be allowed to travel alone, without the company of our parents/siblings /cousins/girl friends or basically anyone who is well acquainted with our family? Often, we won’t!! But here’s why it’s important that you take that solo trip that you so badly want and are putting off just because you won’t get permission from your parents.

Because you can live a story worth telling

Most of us settle for the life we have because we think that we don’t have any choice. Guess what? We do!! You do have the choice to make your own choices and very few things can be more enriching, adventurous and liberating than going on a trip all by yourself and exploring a completely foreign destination where no one knows your name.

Because you will experience life outside of your comfort zone

Most of our day-to-day life is restricted to places that are well known to us whether it’s our home, college or work-space. But here life will start at the edge of your comfort zone.

Because you’ll get to know the real YOU

We often are compelled to lead a life where we mould ourselves according to our social and cultural norms and family values. But travelling solo will allow you to break free and know yourself better. You’ll learn about your strengths and weaknesses, challenge your fears and insecurities, and most importantly you’ll get to know yourself better and enjoy your own company!! You’ll also learn to trust your own instincts and use your common sense.

Because you will meet some wonderful people

Sometimes we have some preconceived notions about certain people and communities, which more often than not are the media’s and other people’s assumptions of them. Travelling alone will teach you to be less judgmental and meet some really incredible people along the way.

Because you’ll fall in love with nature

You’ll discover the charisma of Mother Nature and be eternally captivated by her diversity and grandeur. You’ll have experiences outside-the-box and have a fire lit in your soul that you’ll find hard to contain and control because nature never betrays those that truly loves and enjoys her.

Because you’ll learn to decide for yourselves

Taking one’s own decisions is truly empowering and when you travel alone you’ll need to take every decision for yourself starting from what to eat, where to go, what type of accommodation to use etc. You’ll learn to resolve, to choose, to plan and feel a sense of pride when your decisions prove to be completely groovy!!

Because you’ll learn to manage your finances

I’ve often had a tendency to overspend but travelling solo in a foreign land not only taught me how to travel on a budget but also stick to it. When you’re travelling alone and do not have unlimited funds at your disposal, you’ll learn to stick to your budget and manage your finances sparingly.

Because you’ll become more enlightened

Travelling solo will bring power and love back into your life and you’ll never be the same person again. Period!!
