By adopting Kubernetes, GitLab enabled on-demand autoscaling of virtual machines in just minutes. In addition to that, the company built a CI/CD pipeline, automating 90% of the release process. This also helped to drive the maximum value of Kubernetes features, such as rolling updates, health checks, etc. Then, GitLab moved onto improving its Prometheus-based monitoring with Thanos. The new monitoring system now ingests 2.8 million samples per second, as well as manages 610 alerting and 2,652 recording rules, 31 million series combinations, and 400 Grafana dashboards.
