clearing the way and rebuilding in Nepal

Although the story has faded from the headlines, Nepal is still reeling from the historic earthquake that devastated the country back in April. The quake, which killed more than 9,000 and injured tens of thousands more, left survivors homeless and wreaked havoc on the country’s infrastructure. All Hands Volunteers has been on the ground in Nepal, fighting through monsoon season, to help clear the ruble and rebuild.

In June, the Altruist community raised $112 to help Nepal. Supporting a volunteer in the field in Nepal costs roughly $25 per day, which means that our donation helped fund about 4.5 volunteers for a day. Volunteers that helped families clear the rubble in order to build a safe place to live. Just last week, the All Hands teams in Kathmandu were able to clear their 50th home. This is no small achievement as one team may spend up to a week helping a family salvage their belongings and clear the place where their home once stood.

As our community of 123 members continues to grow, our impact will only become more profound. We will continue to bring you stories of how we are making real change in the world and the impact your dollar has on the nonprofits we support.
