learn more about Altruist’s September nonprofit

This year, we have re-doubled our efforts of finding exceptional nonprofits to support. Nonprofits that do the most good with every dollar. The Effective Altruism project relies heavily on this month’s nonprofit to help people decide where to give — and we rely on them too. GiveWell is dedicated to finding outstanding charitable opportunities and publishing the full details and analysis to help donors decide where to send their dollars.

Other charity evaluators tend to focus too much on administrative and funding costs. GiveWell is different because they conduct in-depth research to determine how much good can be accomplished and focus on lives saved or improved per dollar spent — an important data point that is often overlooked. Their rigorous research and standards has led to a highly-curated list of recommended charities — three of which Altruist has featured so far this year.

Additionally, GiveWell is dedicated to extreme transparency and is supported directly by donations from foundations and individual supporters. They do not take a cut of any donations made to their listed charities or receive any fees from top charities for being featured. This month’s Altruist donations will go towards their research and operational costs so they can continue doing what they do best — finding the most effective charities for us to support.
