learn more about the Altruist May nonprofit

Effective Altruism (EA) has been a major focus for us in 2016, which is why we are excited to feature a nonprofit that is considered an Effective Charity by the EA Community. EA is social movement that focuses on how we can make the biggest charitable impact by combining empathy with data and reason.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a nonprofit that does just that. Roughly 3.5 billion people, or about half the world’s population, are malnourished. GAIN is working to end malnutrition by taking a multi-pronged, tailored approach that includes food fortification, nutrition programs, investment in agriculture, and business partnerships for nutrition. They work with local food manufacturers, governments, and civil society organizations to focus on early life stages and maternal health, in order to have the greatest impact. By providing access to affordable, sustainable, nutritious diets to women and children, they aim to end the cycle of malnutrition and poverty.

GAIN is doing so many great things all over the world, that it would be impossible to touch on them all in a single post. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what our members’ dollar donations can do in May with this ambitious and inspiring nonprofit.
