As a public relations professional, your primary responsibility is to create and maintain a positive image for your company. A key partner in this endeavor is the media, which continues to be a crucial channel for disseminating information to the public. According to a 2022 survey on Indonesia’s Digital Literacy Status conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Information, 60 percent of 10,000 respondents across 34 provinces reported television as their main source of information. The same survey found that television is still the most trusted source of information, with 43 percent of respondents expressing confidence in it, compared to 30.8 percent for social media.

This high level of trust grants media companies significant power to influence public opinions and behaviors. Thus, it is in the best interest of any public relations professional to cultivate strong relationships with the media. Doing so ensures that the information the media conveys is accurate and aligns with the public image your company aims to project. Positive media coverage is instrumental in building trust and credibility for your company, which is essential not only for attracting customers but also for maintaining the confidence of investors, business partners, and other stakeholders.
