Why You have the Deepest Thoughts in the Shower
Letting your mind wander so ideas can connect
‘Shower thoughts’ are a well-known thing. Those fleeting, random and sometimes incredible thoughts we have when standing under a stream of water are something we’ve all experienced.
But why are shower thoughts a thing?
I only recently noticed the profound nature of them when taking a shower before bed when, standing there under the water, I find myself not thinking about anything in particular.
My mind isn’t focused on anything specific and instead just wanders here, there and everywhere. Thoughts enter and leave my mind, like what I’ve done that day, what’s happening with work, how my relationships are going, plus a load of random contemplations and philosophical musings.
As the thoughts come and go connections seem to form between some of them and I start seeing links I didn’t perceive before, and from these connections ideas are born.
They might be ideas about work, a new creative direction to experiment with, different ways to deal with relationship situations, or just connections between pieces of knowledge I hadn’t connected before, and these ideas have had a marked effect on my life.
