500 Degreez was supposed to tell the world that Cash Money Records could and would survive Juvenile’s stunning and acrimonious exit — and by and large, it did manage to do all this, but in no way thanks to this 500 Degreez album from Weezy. The surviving would come a few years later, at first there was still struggle on the horizon. Because ultimately, Wayne’s third solo album would register as more or less the third straight disappointment of his career (although for our money Lights Out is definitely underappreciated). And yet, in an album with probably not that many of them if we’re keeping it real, Bloodline is definitely a bright spot. It’s in large part thanks to Mannie Fresh’s gem of a beat and doesn’t have much to do with Weezy, but whatever.

A win is a win is a win.
