I saw recommendations for The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue from almost every avid reader I know on Instagram. After seeing enough of its praises and seeing how it held a solid place on The New York Times bestsellers list for weeks, I decided to pick up a copy.

As a writer myself, I feel like it’s important to keep up with bestsellers to see where the market and industry are turning. There was a lot of hype and this book didn’t disappoint. I had no trouble at all getting lost in the pages.

The premise of Schwab’s novel is very well-thought-out.

“Being forgotten, she thinks, is a bit like going mad. You begin to wonder what is real, if you are real. After all, how can a thing be real if it cannot be remembered?”
V.E. Schwab, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

The story wastes no time in diving into the complexities of Addie LaRue’s life and situation. After making a deal with a devil-like god of the night, Addie gains immortality…
