I have not always been an avid reader, having struggled at school, due to being dyslexic. Now I read every day. To do this, I had to find my flavour of books. These are my suggestions that I wish I was told about, of course, this is entirely subjective!

Old Man and the Sea

By Ernest Hemmingway

This simple and easy to read book, regular readers would know I adored for the lessons Hemmingway taught me about writing. Do not expect elaborate long sentence, but if you are struggling to get into reading again, this would be a great start.

The Stranger

By Albert Camus

Existentialism leaks out of the pages of Camus classic story of the Stranger. Making philosophy accessible and easily conveyable. As a philosophy student, having spent this first semester studying Immanuel Kant’s works, Camus was an excellent massage compared to the maze, which is Kantian philosophy. The story is thought invoking; the characters are exciting, written well and just a great book.

East of Eden

By John Steinbeck

This book has become my most favourite book I have read so far. The world is utterly absorbing, with gorgeous descriptions and a page-turning plot. I was pleasantly surprised before reading the book, having studied Steinbeck briefly before leaving school. His work carries you through his characters’ lives, and the themes that are covered are varied and fantastic. It was a book I never wanted to finish, and I have planned several articles based on it.
