DX chasing is one of the most popular activities in Amateur Radio. There are 339 entities / countries that one can work. An entity can be explained as something that has a “ legal and separately identifiable existence.” There are really some strange and exotic entities that can be worked. One such entity is Scarborough Reef .

BS7B DXpedition

This reef consists of 5 Rocks in the South China Sea. When ever I get a ATNO (all time new one)I get a warm feeling knowing that I am closer to my goal.

Along your way to achieving this feat, one can apply for various awards along the way. The most prestegious award is the DXCC award.

DXCC Award: DXCC stands for DX Century Club. You can apply for this award once you have 100 entities confirmed. A DXCC award can be obtained for each mode, band. Then you can also get endorsements for the number of entities above 100.

DXCC award for Phone

WAS Award: The Worked All States award is another fun but relatively difficult award to obtain. The idea is to make contact with each of the 50 States in America. This award can also be obtained for the different operating modes and bands. A subset of the WAS award is called the Triple Play Award. For this award you need to contact all 50 States on CW, Phone and Digital.

WAS Digital Award with JT65 endorsement

WAC Award: the Worked All Continents award is obtained for working and confirming all six continents. The continents are Africa, North America, South America, Oceania, Europe and Asia. This award can be obtained for each band in each mode.

VUCC Award: The VHF/UHF Century Club is awarded for contact with a minimum number of Maidenhead 2 degrees by 1 degree grid locators per band. Grid locators are designated by a combination of two letters and two numbers. For more info http://www.arrl.org/vucc
