Recently, there has been a lot speculation in the news of Neymar’s leave from PSG (Paris Saint Germain) for a return to his former team, FC Barcelona. He himself has reportedly admitted that he wants to leave Paris and head for Barcelona again this January or Summer transfer window.

The FC Barcelona stadium: Camp Nou

As a Barca fan, it was disappointing and heartbreaking altogether to see Neymar leave our club. He had everything at Barcelona. He was part of the world’s best forward trio, and he was even a fan favourite.

He definitely was a fan favourite.

Neymar Jr. had left Barca for a few obvious, and a few secretive reasons. However, the obvious reasons for his departure were nothing to be proud of.

  1. He wanted to escape the shadow of one of the (if not the best player) best players in the world, Lionel Messi; an unachievable feat. Sure Neymar might be the future of football (soccer), or he might be the next Messi or Ronaldo, however, in this time frame, it is near impossible to draw attention to yourself in front of the 2 greatest footballers of all time.
  2. Neymar left for the money. He was in for the cash as a result of an insane $220 million dollar bid and another great pay raise from the French giants.

This was crazy for all fans of soccer. Yes, money is important, but much more valuable is the enjoyment of the sport.

Neymar Jr. struggles with injuries at PSG

Neymar is not loving life at Paris. He has problems with the French Ligue 1 and the play style at PSG. He has elaborated on this topic in the press and his emotions on the pitch. The Brazilian clearly wants to be reunited with his 2 best friends. He feels the need to play alongside the GOAT and his partner. So, Neymar is now willing to take a pay-cut for a return flight to Barcelona, but at this point, our past star is now our worst nemesis.

FCB has followed a trend that has lasted a significant amount of time in the history books. Our rule is to not sign a player that we have sold, and based on this tradition, we infer that this transfer isn’t possible despite the world-class potential and skills that Neymar possesses. Even if the Barcelona board and Ernesto Valverde accept the deal, we as fans will not.

The way we see this situation as FC Barcelona fans is that Neymar left us, and that’s that. We now see Neymar (despite whatever his intentions really are) as a traitor. The fans will not accept Neymar as a Barcelona player as we once did. His return will only be worse for himself.

What will be of Neymar’s future? Only time will tell. I just hope he does the right thing.

Neymar, don’t come back.
