Spring 2021

Welcome to the revamped TriSocPod match recap and preview report! The segment in our weekly podcast episode was getting lengthy so we’re using that time on-air to highlight specific matches and then moving the rest of the results to Medium (and potentially its own podcast episode in the future).

For each league we will break the report down by that week’s standings with a brief write-up on the club, their record, and their next opponent. We will also keep track of clubs as they move up and down the standings starting with a +0 for everyone this week.

Let’s get started!

First Flight League

1st — Greenville United (+0)

Greenville has come out of the gate with back to back wins where they have scored three goals. The only negative I have on them currently is that they have also let in four goals in those two matches. The defense will need to get things tidied up if they want to maintain their time at the top of the table.

Record: 2–0–0

Next Opponent: vs Greensboro International FC — March 27th

2nd — Greensboro International FC (+0)

Greensboro put on a performance against an unprepared Wilson side this past week. 10 goals is a statement by the club to show that they have the talent up front to compete in this league. They take on the top of the table next and will have a chance to show if they can repeat those kinds of results.

Record: 1–1–0

Next Opponent: @ Greenville United — March 27th

3rd — Wilmington FC (+0)

Wilmington made their presence known to the world with the only clean sheet in the first week of league matches. The second week didn’t go so well as they suffered their first loss to coastal rivals FC United. Wilmington will be looking to rebound against another close opponent, Olanchano, this weekend.

Record: 1–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Atletico Olanchano FC — March 27th

4th — Bragg FC (+0)

With fewer games played than the rest of the top four Bragg have an opportunity to climb the ranks. They came out with a good performance against Union and this week look to replicate that against their cross town rival.

Record: 1–0–0

Next Opponent: @ Athletico Fayetteville SC — March 27th

5th — Goldsboro Strike Eagles FC (+0)

Strike Eagles stumbled week one against a good Greenville side but rebounded quickly the following week picking up all three points down in Fayetteville. Next they’re heading to Garner where they will look to maintain that edge against a Lazers side that hasn’t had as many matches to gel yet.

Record: 2–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Lazers SC — March 27th

6th — FC United (+0)

The Jacksonville squad picked up all three points at home against Wilmington and will look to use that result to set their tone for the season. This week they’re hosting Union, another opponent where their defense will play a pivotal role.

Record: 1–0–0

Next Opponent: vs Union FC — March 27th

7th — Union FC (+0)

Union started the season strong picking up points on the road versus Lazers in a tough match with several PKs. Their outing the following week didn’t go as well and now they turn to their longest trip of the season and look to pick up at least a point on the road.

Record: 1–0–1

Next Opponent: @ FC United — March 27th

8th — Atletico Olanchano FC (+0)

Their week one match has been the only draw of the season so far. Pair that with a loss against Greenville and you have a recipe for a slow start and an early hole to dig out of. Their next match is against Wilmington who will be hungry to pick up points after their last match.

Record: 0–1–1

Next Opponent: vs Wilmington FC —March 27th

9th — Raleigh Warriors FC (+0)

The Warriors have been missing in action so far this season. They have had three matches postponed so far. Will we actually get to see them play this week?

Record: 0–0–0

Next Opponent: @ Wilson Wolves — March 27th

10th — Lazers SC (+0)

Lazers have had a slow start after a brutal opening match with Union and then a postponed match against their cross town rivals, the Warriors. Unfortunately that means they will be up against a motivated Goldsboro side looking to build off a win while Lazers haven’t played a match in two weeks.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: vs Goldsboro Strike Eagles FC —March 27th

11th — Athletico Fayetteville SC (+0)

Our pick as the most disappointing start to the season. Fayetteville has yet to score this season and has let three go by in both matches. This is a big hole to dig themselves out of early, but there is time. This week they will be up against Bragg for the first leg of the Fayetteville Derby.

Record: 0–0–2

Next Opponent: vs Bragg FC — March 27th

12th — Wilson Wolves (+0)

What can you say? It is embarrassing to have ten unanswered goals go by you. However, Wilson is a new side and didn’t get many pre-season matches in ahead of the start. Hopefully once they get a few matches in their competitive level will rise.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: vs Raleigh Warriors — March 27th

UPSL Mid-Atlantic

1st — Combine Rush (+0)

Combine picked up where they left off last fall with a solid win over newcomers Queen City FC. This week they face the Fall Mid-Atlantic North winner, Moros FC, for what should be a very competitive match.

Record: 1–0–0

Next Opponent: @ Moros FC —March 27th

2nd — SC Heat (+0)

Picking up early points is big for an expansion side and that puts the Heat in a good position compared to the other new sides. This week they’re taking on Lobos, a side that hasn’t performed at the top year-to-year, so it’ll be another chance to gain ground early.

Record: 1–0–0

Next Opponent: @ Lobos FC —March 27th

3rd — Charleston United SC (+0)

Charleston came out on top again in their week one Fall Mid-Atlantic South final rematch. They’ll be happy to walk away with three points from Soda City and will try and carry that momentum into week two.

Record: 1–0–0

Next Opponent: @ San Lee FC — March 27th

4th — San Lee FC (+0)

Week one saw San Lee travel down to Charlotte to face one of the new sides this season, Charlotte United. They got the job done and walked away with a one goal victory. This week they host the reigning Mid-Atlantic champs. Both clubs looking to maintain their early momentum should make for an entertaining match.

Record: 1–0–0

Next Opponent: vs Charleston United SC — March 27th

5th — Soda City FC (+0)

An early stumble finds Soda City on the losing end of the Fall Mid-Atlantic South final rematch. They’re a perennial contender and should dust themselves off quickly. This week they find themselves traveling to Charlotte to take on Queen City FC.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Queen City FC — March 27th

6th — Charlotte United (+0)

Not ideal to start their first campaign with a home loss. They’ll get a good shot of picking up early points on the road against their fellow expansion side in Myrtle Beach.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Myrtle Beach FC — March 27th

7th — Myrtle Beach FC (+0)

Hard to pick up points early on when joining an established division, but this week they’ll get their first chance at home against Charlotte United.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: vs Charlotte United — March 27th

8th — Queen City FC (+0)

Queen City broke off from another established club and are looking to make a name for themselves in the region. Unfortunately they didn’t start on the right foot and ended up in the hole early against Combine. This week they have another tough opponent so they’ll have to dig in early to weather the storm.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: vs Soda City FC — March 27th

9th — Lobos FC (+0)

One of two clubs that did not play week one. They’ll look to start their campaign this week against their Columbia rival SC Heat.

Record: 0–0–0

Next Opponent: vs SC Heat — March 27th

10th — Moros FC (+0)

Second club not to play week one. They’ll be opening at home against Combine. We have our eyes on Moros to see if they will be able to repeat their success from last Fall.

Record: 0–0–0

Next Opponent: vs Combine Rush —March 27th
